A fiduciary, in advisory relationships, is required by law to act in the best interest of their client. I’ve built my practice on acting in the best interest of my clients. With that said, I am eligible to act as a fiduciary, in advisory relationships.
Yes, I am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®). To obtain a CFP® designation, an advisor needs to complete a rigorous financial educational program, pass a comprehensive test and have at least 4,000 – 6,000 hours of financial planning experience. CFPs are required to complete annual continuing education and most importantly, we are required to adhere to a fiduciary duty.
“A CFP professional’s fiduciary duty may be higher than what’s required by regulation, and—as defined by CFP Board—this includes a duty of loyalty, a duty of care and duty to follow client instructions,” says Jack Brod, CFP, board chair of the CFP Board.
I give my clients two options. Some clients prefer a fee only model where I charge them a flat rate and we design a financial plan. Other clients prefer that I manage their assets, which I charge a percentage fee based on the amount of assets. Sometimes through the planning process we will uncover an insurance need. If a client uses me as their advisor, I will collect a commission from the insurance carrier.
My investment philosophy centers around controlling what you can control. I focus on the following:
1) Time in the market over timing the market.
2) Asset allocation is the main driver of performance.
3) Diversify when appropriate.
4) Keep investment costs low.
5) Aim to minimize the impact of taxes.
Ultimately, my investment philosophy is centered around you and your investment's need to line up with your financial priorities.
I have been a financial advisor since 2009 and have helped hundreds of clients over the years. While I may not be retired, I’ve experienced retirement many times over through my clients. I’ve worked to obtain the CFP® designation, appeared on local new stations and I’ve written a book on retirement.
Initially, we should expect to meet between 4-5 times to get you financially organized and aligned with your priorities. Once we are on track, we will meet at least two times a year. I have meetings with clients in the spring and fall to coincide with the tax season. Additionally, if you have any questions in between meetings, we can always set up another time to talk.
I don’t have any quotas nor am I financially incentivized to offer one product over another.
I never directly custody or hold any of your assets individually. Your assets will be custodied with LPL Financial which is the largest broker dealer in the U.S. as reported by Financial Planning Magazine 1996-2003 based on total revenue.
